TaxMama’s® EA Exam Newsletter – Issue 3, 2009

IRS News

Recently TaxMama® was privy to interesting inside information from key IRS officials.

  • IRS has an Abusive Transactions team that researches leads about tax shelters that have no tax validity. This team has a two-pronged approach. Once they’ve done their digging, they forward some information to IRS Criminal Investigation teams and the courts so injunctions are filed; or they might send referrals to the IRS audit teams. Leads come from IRS agents in the field and in the offices, as well as from tax professionals – and the public. TaxMama® has the phone number to this team manager.
  • The Appeals manager talked about his team’s powers to settle cases. You’re not going to be able to negotiate numbers back and forth the way you would with a fishmonger. But Appeals does have the authority to settle cases for less than the balance due – once they take the hazards of litigations into effect. TaxMama® also has the phone number to this team manager.

Lots more interesting inside information was imparted – and clarifications of laws and procedures – and exchanges of phone numbers. As usual. If you want to learn more about the hazards of litigation, shelters to avoid, how to reach key IRS officials in a pinch, TaxMama® will teach you in her EA Exam Course. You get a lot more than just a review for an Exam. You can register for the Live Course here.

News from TaxMama’s® EA Exam Course

Based on feedback from students taking Part I of the EA Exam course, we learned that Part I is overloaded with questions in certain categories that have traditionally been only mildly represented. And the questions are hard. So we held a Bonus Review Class last week to supplement the Part I materials – and to do intense quizzing in those areas. We do things like that for our students. Doesn’t everyone? You can register for the Live Course here.

We are just about to receive the Gleim materials, we will be shipping them to students next week.

Live Course Part 2 and Part 3…and Part 1

Remember that you can still sign up for Parts 2 and 3 of the Live Course. Part 2 is in progress right now. Part 3 starts on August 25. We will run Part I again in the fall for those registering for the live course in July. You can register for the Live Course here.

Note: We are considering offering a special session on non-residents, due to popular demand.
